our mission
At Back Bone Society, we’re redefining luxury with purpose. Founded by designer Emma Hubregsen, an alum of the London College of Fashion with a focus in contour design, we exist to empower, include, and inspire through fashion. Our mission is to create ethically crafted, sustainably made luxury basics that celebrate individuality and elevate everyday style.
Handmade in small batches in our Los Angeles facility, each piece is thoughtfully designed and constructed using locally sourced, ethical materials. We believe in full transparency, from the designer’s sketch to the hands that bring each garment to life.
Back Bone Society isn’t just a brand, it’s a movement. One that champions conscious creation, ethical values, and bold, inclusive fashion for all.

Back Bone is more than a name, it is a way of being... A brand that emulates everything it means to be a strong woman. This brand is dedicated to all women, who show their strength every day. When you wear a Back Bone piece you are a part of all those females of the past, present and future. It was inspired by my grandmothers Theresa and Ann Faye. Both women were instrumental in making me who I am today. They always taught me to show some back bone meaning to stand strong, believe in yourself, and never let others break you. I have carried their message throughout my life and wanted a brand that showed tribute to the women who have shaped me. So, show some back bone.

We design and craft every piece right here in our Los Angeles studio. Monday through Friday, 9 to 5.
Supporting local isn’t just a choice, it’s who we are. From our trusted U.S. vendors to our L.A. based production partners, every thread of our process stays close to home. We're proud to say every piece is made in the U.S., with care, intention, and community at heart.

HOW WE EMPOWER WOMEN
Building strong solidarity for the women in the company was crucial for Back Bone. We recognize how women are truly at the forefront of fashion. From our models, designers, and garment workers, we are surrounded by feminine energy everywhere. Our managerial positions and leadership roles are all filled by women with various backgrounds in fashion, graphic design, and corporate management. We are truly made by women, for women.
Part of Back Bone’s activism is making sure we can fill the gaps of gendered workplace imbalances. Women make up most of the garment industry’s workforce but tend to be paid much less and not receive higher positions. We have tackled this by paying livable wages, creating a socially positive work space, and providing resources to empower our garment and brand partners. Back Bone has built master classes in various cities covering topics that women can use for personal growth and skill learning. These events feature women working in community outreach, politicians fighting for women’s rights, and mental health workers. An important aspect of the Back Bone society is the partnership with Planned Parenthood where our 9th collection donated 30% of proceeds to help fight for women’s reproductive rights. Back Bone’s main use of fashion is to try and build collective change and awareness of women's issues.
